展覧会概要　*English below

この度、KOKI ARTSでは、高嶋英男の初個展を開催致します。本展では、高嶋英男が2011年頃から取り組んでいる、「花瓶について」シリーズを展示致します。

 

高嶋は、「周辺」を一つのテーマとして制作しています。高嶋の作品は、通常だと注目を浴びない、ものの周辺にある「ダサい」存在が「カッコイイ」に変わる一瞬をとらえ、表現しています。「花瓶について」シリーズでも、脇役であるはずの花瓶が人間の形になり、顔の部分を形成している花瓶の口には本来主役の花が無く、空っぽになっています。人間のアイデンティティーとして重要である顔が空洞のため、見る側に衝撃を与えると同時に、奇妙な世界観を漂わせます。

 

本展は、高嶋英男の初個展ですが、高嶋は過去に数々のグループ展に参加しております。

「カラッポにミタサレた世界より」

 

 

僕は、日常のなかに少しのズレや隙間の様なものが現れるその瞬間が好きだったりする。
それらをうまくつかまえると日常から跳躍して、なにか別の世界へ一瞬にしてワープするようなそんな感覚に陥る。

壷人間たちは顔がない。いや、ないわけではなく、そこに確かにあるが、ないのだ。顔の所がぽっかりと空いたその状態に、表情というものに対する僕なりの興味があらわれている気がする。

KOKI ARTS is excited to host Hideo Takashima's first solo exhibition. This exhibition will showcase works from the "About the Vase" series Takashima has been creating since 2011.

 

Takashima is interested in peripheral subjects that are usually not in the spotlight. His works capture and express the moment an "uncool" subject evolves and appears "cool" to the viewer. In each work from the "About the Vase" series, the vase is molded into a human figure while the mouth of the vase shapes the face, with no flowers inside, leaving the face completely empty. Given that the face of a human being plays a major role in one's identity, Takashima's faceless sculptures shock the viewer and at the same time create an atmosphere of peculiarity.

 

Although this will be Takashima's first solo exhibition, he has previously shown in several group exhibitions, including two at KOKI ARTS.

 

 

"From the World Satisfied by Emptiness"

 

I am interested in the moment when some kind of a gap or opening emerges in everyday life.

When successful in capturing these moments, I get a feeling of warping into different world from the ordinary daily life.

 

These "vase people" have no faces. To be more precise, they have faces, but they are not what we recognize as faces. My interest towards facial expression is depicted in these empty hollow faces.
